Homemade Olive Garden Breadsticks

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup + 2 Tbsp warm water
  • 1¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 Tbsp sugar divided
  • 3 - 3¼ cups all purpose flour
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • Garlic Butter topping
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
Instructions
  1. Add warm water, yeast and 1 tsp of the sugar to the bowl of a stand mixer and stir gently.
  2. Allow to rest for 10 minutes (allowing the yeast to "proof")
  3. Add remaining sugar, 1½ cups flour, 1½ tsp salt and vegetable oil and mix on medium speed.
  4. Add another 1½ cups of flour and knead mixture 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  5. Add remaining flour only if needed
  6. Transfer dough to a large, greased bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap.
  7. Allow to rest in a warm place until double in size (1 to 1½ hours)
  8. Once risen, punch dough down and divide it into 12 equal parts.
  9. Roll each piece of dough into a 9 inch rope and transfer to a greased cookie sheet.
  10. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise again for 1 hour.
  11. Bake the breadsticks at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
  12. Mix the garlic butter topping ingredients together.
  13. Brush butter mixture over the tops of the hot, cooked breadsticks.
  14. Serve warm.
