Movies and Shows to Watch–Episode 102

Posted on September 25, 2025 by Jennifer Glenn

It seems like this is the first summer in many years that there were several movies in theaters that we were looking forward to seeing. And because it’s summer–we also enjoyed numerous movies and shows at home. There are links to IMdb.com where you can find descriptions, trailers, and all the information you need about the movie. I also include links to their parent guide for what we watch with our children (PG-13 and above). Pluggedin.com is also a great resource to learn more about the content of movies, tv shows, games, books, and YouTube channel. Here’s what we watched:

1.Jurassic World: Rebirth. I admit, I was skeptical when the trailer for this movie first came out. I love all the Jurassic Park movies, and the Jurassic World ones are my favorites. We saw it in the theater on the big giant Icon screen at Icon Theater. I thought it was really good and Super Rockstar and the boys enjoyed it too. The dinosaurs are amazing, the story was very captivating with a lot of good action, and I thought Scarlette Johanson did a great job as the lead.

2. Superman. Super Rockstar is a long time Superman fan. He even loves the old Christopher Reed ones–which are arguably the cheesiest ones with the worst acting. He was so excited to see this as soon as it arrived in theaters. Unfortunately, I think we now have a new winner for the worst one ever. We didn’t like it. Superman is weak and needy, the story is lacking any real imagination, and it’s just so very, very bad. There were a few moments here and there that were OK. I personally liked Super Dog, but Super Rockstar and the boys thought he was too over the top with CGI. We all really liked Lex Luthor –Nicholas Hoult does a great job portraying him.

3. The Chosen–Season 5. We all love this series so much. Season 5 is all about the Last Supper and all that led up to it. It is so well done.

4. Heads of State. This is a new movie out on Prime. It has John Cena and Idris Elba and is a very good action movie, a great story and fun humor throughout. We all enjoyed it.

5. Live Action: How to Train Your Dragon. My boys are BIG How to Train Your Dragon fans–loving all the movies since they were very young. But neither of them was interested in seeing the live action one in theaters. Why? Because Astrid is a brunette in this one. That’s what they said. But in digging further, I found that they didn’t like that it was just a retelling of the original. I personally enjoyed the movie, and I thought Astrid as a brunette was just fine. The actress that played her–and all the others did really well. But I kind of agree with my boys. As good as I thought the movie was, I would have preferred an original story.  It’s a “meh” from us.

6. Now You See Me. It had been years since Super Rockstar and I had watched this movie and our boys had never seen it. I love all the cool magic tricks, the story is so good, and we all really enjoyed it.

7. Now You See Me 2. Since we saw the first one, of course we had to see the second. We enjoyed it a lot too. The boys liked it even better than the first one.

How about you? I would love to hear what you are enjoying watching.
