What we watched in January seems like a lifetime ago, but there were so many good ones, I just had to share:
1.Landman–Season 3. Super Rockstar and I have really enjoyed this series. I loved the addition of Sam Elliott playing Tommy’s (Billy Bob Thorton) Dad this season but overall, I felt like the story didn’t progress and didn’t ever really go anywhere. It fell kind of flat in my opinion. I do hope they do a 4th season and will hopefully spice up some of the story lines.

2. Mayor of Kingstown–Season 4. I have a love/hate relationship with this show. It’s a creative tale about a guy who plays the liaison for the town prison and all the gang activity with the prison security and local police. It’s complicated and I feel like his life is constantly going from one disaster to the next. I think for Super Rockstar–that element hits a little too close to home with his job. Haha! It was a pretty decent season, and I really like Jeremy Renner as the Mayor.

3. Murder on the Orient Express. We had some wonderful family movie nights this month. If I have done nothing else right in my life as a mother–I have for sure passed on to my boys an enjoyment for watching murder mysteries. In my opinion–Agatha Christi did it best. I love her novels and this series of movies based on her beloved character Hercule Poirot played by Kenneth Branagh–are all so good. This one is my favorite of the three.

4. Death on the Nile. We all like this one too–it’s just not as good as the first one. I think the crazy psycho girlfriend character made us all feel less enthused, but it’s still a good intrigue and mystery that keeps you guessing until the end.

5. A Haunting in Venice. Of the three in this series, this is my least favorite. I still like it and have liked it more each time we watch it. But the dark element of a psychic and talking with the dead just has an icky element to my spirit. It’s all proven fake, but the whole movie has a dark and sinister feel to it.

6. Avatar: Fire and Ash. We got to see this in the movie theater. To be honest–I was pretty disappointed. We all were. The CGI and scenery is fantastic and the movie has a “big” feel to it. I just thought the story was lacking. A lot. I’ll probably watch it again and maybe my opinion of it will improve.

7. Greenland. We started watching this as a family. But it has a very intense story line of a family that has been selected to be saved as a earth killing asteroid is hurling to the earth. Our boys didn’t like it when their son is abducted by another family trying to get on the airplanes leading to safety. Child abductions and abuse in movies send both of my boys out of the room. I completely understand and respect that. The boy in the movie gets back to his family pretty quickly and all turns out ok. But it is a VERY intense, high action drama.

8. Robinhood: Men in Tights. Our boys had never seen this–so we decided to introduce them to it. Cary Elwes as Robin Hood is fantastic and it’s just a fun comedy spin on the story.

9. The Day After Tomorrow. This has become a tradition for us to watch when the temps dip down to subzero. It is such a good drama about if the weather around the world ever went completely crazy and landed us in another ice age. It has an underlying lesson theme about global warming, etc. But it’s a really good movie overall.

10. Tulsa King–Season 3. Sylvester Stallone playing a mob boss is about the same as Sylvester Stallone playing any character he’s done, but Super Rockstar and I have enjoyed this series a lot. This season was as good as the first two and it’s another good Taylor Sheridan story.

11. Good Fortune. We had brought this movie up as a possible family movie option. Morgan wasn’t interested and Grayson was kind of “meh”. So one evening while Morgan was working, we gave it a shot. It’s pretty good. Kianu Reeves playing the angel Gabriel and how he is assigned the task of keeping folks from distraction while driving. He decides to go for a bigger project of trying to help a guy that is down on his luck and ends up making a mess of everything. It’s pretty funny and an enjoyable family film.

12. The Running Man. I remember watching the original one with Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the day and thinking it was a pretty cool movie. This new one takes it up several notches. It’s really great action and we all really enjoyed it.

13. Greenland 2: Migration.  Super Rockstar and I went to see this in the theater for a date night. After really enjoying the first one, we were pretty disappointed in this one. As with so many part 2 movies–they kept trying to recreate what made the first one work well. It just landed very flat in my opinion. It seemed like the story was all over the place and I had trouble caring what was going to happen.

That’s all for now. We’ve already got a great list going for February and I can’t wait to share it with you in a couple of weeks. I’m always looking for new inspiration on what to watch, so please let me know what you’ve found that you love.
