We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. The Rest of the Mission Impossible’s.
Mission Impossible 3. This is, by far, my most favorite Mission Impossible movie. Phillip Seymore Hoffman plays the bad guy and is fantastic. Ethan Hunt gets married, his new wife is kidnapped and if Hunt wants to see her alive again, he has to steal something the bad guy wants. The stunts are amazing, the action is heart racing and the whole movie grabs you from the start–plus it introduces the Benji character, which I love (played by Simon Pegg). It’s rated PG-13 and we held off letting our boys watch this for a long time. It has a very intense scene at the beginning and picks up later in the movie that would be disturbing for young viewers. There’s quite a bit of intense action and violence (you can read the parent guide here).
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. I also really love this one. It has a great scene at the beginning with Ethan being in prison and his team getting him out. Then, they have to keep a terrorist group from getting Russian nuclear launch codes. There is an awesome scene where Ethan is scaling the tallest building in Dubai and a fantastic chase scene in a sand storm. We loved it. It’s also rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. Alex Baldwin joins the cast as the chief who convinces a Senate committee to disband the IMF. There is a dangerous organization called the Syndicate that Ethan discovers is responsible for multiple world disasters and world leader assassinations. He and his team go rogue and expose them. It has all the wonderful action and stunts that the previous movies have had–and we loved it! It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
Mission Impossible: Fallout. The IMF is tasked with obtaining 3 plutonium cores that are up for sale on the black market. In an attempt to purchase them, all goes wrong and they find out the Syndicate which was disbanded in the previous movie, is now in full operation as the Apostles. They are able to free Soloman (their leader) and get two of the cores. It’s now up to the IMF to find the weapons before they can detonate. Oh. My. Goodness. This movie has so much intense action–I felt like I needed oxygen. It also has Henry Cavill in it (Superman). We absolutely loved it! It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
***A FOLLOW UP NOTE–I mentioned last week that we started re-watching all of these movies because there was a new one coming out this year. We have since found out that they have put off the release of Mission Impossible 7 until next summer of 2023. Oh well, I guess we’ll be watching them again. Haha!
2. Bridgerton. This is an original show on Netflix. It’s an 1800’s drama that seems kind of similar to Pride and Prejudice–as it’s all about young girls coming out into society and start going to a lot of social events to find husbands. There’s lots of fancy balls, intrigue and a fun narration from an anonymous writer who publishes a gossip newspaper about all the societal drama. I’ve really enjoyed it so far–although there are WAY too many sex scenes and nudity (I think they were trying to compete with Game of Thrones) It’s not necessary and I feel like I have to avert my eyes and fast forward too much. This show is rated TV-MA (in other words rated R)–so not for kids at all.
3. The Tomorrow War. Super Rockstar had seen this one already, but decided our boys might enjoy it too. It’s about normal everyday life being interrupted when a group of soldiers from the future time travel back to ask for help in fighting a future war they are losing against an alien monster invasion. Present day people are drafted to serve seven days by being taken to the future to fight–most don’t come back. It’s very intense and the alien monsters are pretty scary. I think the music and jump scares make them seem even more frightening– Grayson came to sit with us a couple of times during the movie. Overall, they really loved it and I enjoyed it more the second time than the first. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
