We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. F9: The Fast Saga. Super Rockstar and I watched this movie about a year ago. At the time I wrote our review (you can read that here), I mentioned that I would consider letting my boys watch it because of its tamer approach to adult content (the first several have a lot of scantily clad women and adult situations). This past week, we let them watch it and they LOVED it–John Cena is in this one (playing Dom’s long-lost brother)–so they were extra thrilled. The high speed chases and impossible stunts were awesome. These movies will never win any Best Acting Oscar’s, but are so fun to watch–I enjoyed it just as much the second time around as the first. It does have some foul language and some intense fight scenes, but of all the Fast and the Furious movies–this one is by far the most youth friendly (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Frontier. I watched this series on Netflix a few years ago by myself and really liked it and thought Super Rockstar would enjoy it too. It has Jason Momoa playing an outlaw in the 1700’s, Declan Harp, who is also an independent fur trader in Cananda. He and his crew of mostly Cree Indians are seeking to overthrow the HBC (Hudson Bay Company)–a company that has the market place cornered and is led by a ruthless man, Lord Benton. There’s a lot of great action, bad guys you love to hate, and quite a bit of violence. There are only 3 seasons with no mention if a 4th one will ever be released, but it’s a very good historical drama. Super Rockstar really likes it and I enjoyed seeing it a second time.
3. Halo. My boys were absolutely ecstatic about this show being released–as they have played the video game for a few years. It streams on Paramount + and new episodes will be released each week with a total of 9. We watched the first episode and I have a couple of things to note: first of all–I didn’t know it was rated TV-MA. I thought it was TV-14–as the video games are mostly Teen rated. I wish I would have known, because the opening scene is extremely violent–bodies blown apart and kids killed by the alien species known as The Elite. Secondly, after that initial scene–the rest of the show was very impressive. The scenery, characters, props and costumes are just like the video game and the boys both said it was like they brought the game to life. For future episodes we’ll wait and do some research first before we let the boys see it–we might need to be prepared to skip scenes with obscene violence (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
