We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.Sing 2. I can’t even begin to tell you how much we enjoyed this movie. Delightful. Absolutely delightful. The same great characters are back for this one. They are aspiring to a bigger stage, but find the entertainment mogul who gives them their chance is not as nice as he seems. It’s a great story, fun music and laugh out loud fun. It’s rated PG and I think kids of all ages will enjoy it (you can read the parent guide here).
2.RED. On a typical weekend, we were scrolling through all of our streaming aps trying desperately to find something we all could agree on to watch as a family. This movie from way back in 2010 popped up. At first, we were worried that it might have too much graphic violence, but in reading the parent guide–it looked fine. When we showed the boys the trailer–they were intrigued. Oh. My. Goodness. I am SO glad we watched it. I had forgotten how funny it is–with Bruce Willis and John Malkovich playing retired CIA operatives that get pulled back into the game. Morgan Freeman and Helen Murin also play fantastic rolls. It has great action and is really just a fun movie. It’s rated PG-13–there’s some foul language and some of the fight scenes are pretty intense, so it’s not for littles (you can read that parent guide here).
3.RED 2. We watched the first one, so of course we had to watch the second. It’s just as great–if not more so. In this one the same key players have been gathered to track down a nuclear device. This one also has Anthony Hopkins–and it’s so, so good. It’s also rated PG-13 with similar foul language use and some intense action scenes (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Infinite. This was a family movie choice–and I’m not sure it was the right one. It’s a movie that stars Mark Wahlberg. He is an “Infinite”–which is a person who is reincarnated to a new person each time he dies. The theme of the show is that all of us do this, but only a handful actually remember their past lives. It has a confusing plot in my opinion as the main bad guy (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) has some sort of device that will kill all those with memories of past lives. So, now it’s up to Mark Wahlberg’s character to protect the device from falling back into his hands. I thought there was some good action, but over-all I thought the movie was kind of weird and pretty “meh”. It’s rated PG-13 and has some intense fight scenes and some foul language (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
