We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Jurassic World: Dominion. Oh boy were we excited to see this movie! We have loved all of the Jurassic Park and World movies and so we got tickets to the biggest screen in our city–the Icon Cinemas Iconic Screen. We love this movie theater–not only do they have this giant 100’W X 68H screen, but they also have the comfiest reclining seats AND limitless popcorn and drink refills. If you’re going to watch a movie about dinosaurs–you definitely need a lot of popcorn to munch. We absolutely loved the movie. They brought back so many characters from the original Jurassic Park movies, there are all the favorites from the Jurassic World ones, plus several new characters I really enjoyed. I really liked that they tied the story all together and also added a lot of new dinosaurs that have never been shown in the previous movies. My main criticism is that there were too many re-created moments from the original movies–way too many–and it came across as kind of corny. It’s rated PG-13 and has quite a bit of intense action with lots of jump scares and big scary dinosaurs (you can read the parent guide here). We liked it so much–we saw it twice.
2. Stranger Things: Season 4. The long-awaited Season 4–Part 1 of Stranger Things has FINALLY been released. We wondered if we needed to rewatch Season 3 to catch up, but they do a nice re-cap before the 1st episode that helped jog our memories a bit. I still wish we would have re-watched the previous season, but I’m terrible about remembering characters and storylines right after I see them anyway–so I’m not sure it would have helped. They brought back all the favorite characters, included a few new ones to love (and hate) and the upside down is scarier than ever with a new monster villain. This TV series has always had a horror movie like feel to it–and this season definitely takes it up a notch. It’s rated TV-14, but in my opinion, it should be TV-MA–and I think that it should even have disclaimers added that would caution adults that are sensitive to horror movie type situations (like me). There are 7 episodes total. In this season–the main characters are split apart–some still living in Hawkins, IN and others that have moved to Lenora, CA. Sometimes I had trouble remembering who was where, but they all of course come back together in the end to fight the dark evil of the upside down. Not really a spoiler, but just to note–since this is Part 1-not everything gets wrapped up, but Part 2 comes out next month–so hopefully I will remember what happened and not have to re-watch it all over again. Another thing to note–one of the characters talks a lot of her same sex attraction for a girl in their school and there’s also quite a bit of foul language.
3. The Boss Baby 2: Family Business. Our neighborhood movie theater has been doing a “Summer Movie Club” every year since the boys were little. Basically, it’s one morning a week that they show a previously released kids movie for $1.50 per seat. It’s always a fun summer tradition for us. This week it was The Boss Baby 2: Family Business. They boys had already seen it, but this was my first time. I loved the first Boss Baby movie and this one is just as good–if not better. The main characters from the first movie have grown up and one of them finds out that his baby daughter is part of Baby Corp and is on assignment to investigate a school that is popping up locations all over the nation and seems to be leading the kids to no longer listen to their parents. Her older sister just happens to be going to one of these schools. Now Ted and Tim Templeton must revert back to being little kids again so they can investigate and help overthrow the bad guy. It’s a really cute, fun and enjoyable movie. And has a good message about staying close to your siblings. It’s rated PG.
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
