We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Minions: The Rise of Gru. If you love the Despicable Me movies like we do–then you will love this one too. It is all about how Gru became the “super villain” he is. It is absolutely delightful, funny, silly, and just plain enjoyable. It’s rated PG and is great for kids of all ages–although for littles (toddler age–there are some characters that might seem kind of scary) (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen. It’s so much fun to introduce my boys to some of my favorite movies. They enjoyed them as much as I do and it was great to watch them together.
Ocean’s Eleven: In this one, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) puts together a crew to pull off an elaborate heist that involves robbing 3 Las Vegas Casinos all in one night. It turns out that Ocean’s reasons are a little beyond just the greed of a big score. The owner of these three casinos, Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia) is dating his ex-wife, Tess (Julia Roberts) and he wants to win her back. I love all the plotting and scheming and especially the names they have for the various cons (swinging priest, smugglers paradise, crazy Larry, etc). It’s rated PG-13. There is a lot of foul language and since it’s in Vegas–there’s some scenes with show girls (you can read the parent guide here).
Ocean’s Twelve: The whole gang is back–this time it’s because Terry Benedict has found them all and wants his money back with interest. To pull it off, they travel to Europe to attempt a heist to get back some of the money they need to pay Terry back. They encounter a fellow thief, Francois Toulour–also known as the Night Fox (Vincent Cassel) who beats them to the score. He wants to prove to them that he is the better thief and offers them a challenge to see who can steal a FabergĂ© egg from an upcoming museum show first. If they win–he will pay back their debt. If he wins–they must acknowledge that he is the best thief. Another snag is that a former girlfriend of Rusty (Brad Pitt), Isabel (Catherine Zeta-Jones) is an FBI agent and hot on the trail of the Night Fox and now them. It is also rated PG-13–for the same reasons as the first one (you can read the parent guide here).
Ocean’s Thirteen: The crew comes back together once again when Reuben (Elliott Gould) has been conned out of his entire savings by investing in a hotel/casino being built by Willy Bank (Al Pacino). Bank cuts him out completely and Reuben is so shocked and upset, he is hospitalized and has lost the will to live. His friends decide to pull off an elaborate heist that involves Bank losing multi millions, his coveted 5 star diamond award collection he has earned for his other hotels, and the chance of winning it for this new hotel. As with all of the movies–the cons are fun, there’s unreachable challenges, and everything works out in the end. It’s rated PG-13–there’s a lot of foul language and kind of a scene where Linus (Matt Damon) is seducing Bank’s assistant, Abigail (Ellen Barkin) (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
