We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.The Bad Guys. I absolutely LOVED this movie. It’s about some notorious criminals–a wolf, shark, tarantula, pirhana, and snake–that are captured by authorities. They pretend to want to be rehabilitated so that they can avoid prison. But, during their forced rehab–the leader, Mr. Wolf, decides he really would like to be a good guy. It’s then that he realizes that the “good guy” tasked with teaching them to be good guys is not all he seems. It’s a lot of fun, with great action and so many funny scenes. It’s rated PG and great for kids of all ages (you can read the parent guide here).
2.Floor is Lava–season 2. We stumbled across this show on Netflix last year and enjoyed it. It’s a game show where teams compete against each other and have to make it across a room filled with “lava”. There are many obstacles and huge leaps to overcome to make it to the exit. If a teammate falls in, they are out and whoever has the most teammates that make it to the exit in the shortest time–wins. In this season, the top two teams each week compete in a final challenge in which they climb a volcano. Whoever makes it to the top first and puts 3 rocks in place to “cap” the volcano wins $10,000. It’s rated TV-Y7 and is very entertaining (you can read the parent guide here).
3.Paul Blart: Mall Cop. It was Morgan’s turn to choose a family movie, and he found this gem. Super Rockstar and I had seen it before, but it’s been years. It’s about Paul Blart (Kevin James) who is a lonely mall cop living with his mother and young daughter. He has tried numerous times to be accepted into the police academy. The problem? He suffers from hypoglycemia–a condition that causes him to pass out cold when his blood sugar gets too low. It’s up to him to save the day when thieves take over the mall where he works. It’s such a silly, goofy movie with plenty of Kevin James schtick. It’s a little too much set up with the story, etc. for my taste, but once the action kicks in–it’s a fun movie to watch. It’s rated PG and probably wouldn’t be appropriate for young kids, but there’s not much foul language and the action scenes are not too intense (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. We watched the first one, so of course we had to see the second. In this one, he and his daughter–who is now getting ready to go to college–travel to Las Vegas for the big security officer convention. He teams up with band of fellow misfits to rescue his daughter when she accidently stumbles upon a crime in the hotel. Once again the story took too long to develop in my opinion, but it is really funny and has some good action and fun moments throughout. It’s also rated PG and has the same mild use of foul language and some action scenes that might be too much for littles (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
