We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.DC League of Super-Pets. This movie is just wonderful. Superman has a dog named Krypto (who knew?). The members of the Justice League are captured and Krypto teams up with some pet store misfits who also have just received superpowers of their own, to save the day. It’s rated PG–but I was surprised at the use of some mild foul language. It was mostly disguised by use of other words with the original being pretty clear–kind of disappointing for a kids movie. There also are two LGBTQ references–very subtle ones, but still there. And some littles might find the “bad guy” characters a little frightening at times (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Bullet Train. We loved it. I didn’t know it was rated R and had even had considered letting our boys watch it. I’m so glad I didn’t–it is most definitely not a kids movie. Brad Pitt plays a reluctant assassin (code named Lady Bug)–he’s had too many things go wrong. But he agrees to do a job in which all that is involved is to grab a case off of a high-speed train in Japan. The problem? He’s not the only assassin on the train going for the case. It is such a fun movie–a lot of great humor and action, BUT it is very bloody. Think Pulp Fiction or Kill Bill. The fight scenes always end with someone dead and in a very graphically violent (yet sometimes humorous) way. I felt kind of guilty for bursting out laughing at some of the–let’s say, creative–ways some of them died. It’s a very enjoyable and often times funny movie.
3. The Sea Beast. This is a new one on Netflix. It’s about an era in which the seas are full of monstrous sea beasts. Captain Crow and his mates sail the seas hunting the massive creatures and are hailed as heroes. Young Maisy who has dreamed of being a hunter, stows away on the ship and the adventure begins. It has some similar elements to the Dragon Tales movies. We really enjoyed it. It’s rated PG and I think is good for kids of all ages–the sea monsters are not very scary (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
