We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.The Terminal List. This is a TV series streaming on Amazon Prime. Chris Pratt plays a SEAL team officer whose entire team is ambushed and killed on a covert mission. He suffers a head injury and suffers memory loss and PTSD. He discovers that things are not what they seem, and he is being framed–so he goes on the run to avenge those that died. It’s a very intense, but very good. It’s rated TV-MA and I don’t recommend for kids.
2.Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. We decided to re-watch the entire Harry Potter series as a family. I absolutely love these movies and still one day to hope to read the books. In this one young Harry has been raised by his “muggle” aunt and uncle–who don’t like Harry and keep it a secret from him that he is a wizard. It’s only when he gets his invitation to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, that he discovers how special he really is. He befriends Hermoine and Ron and together they discover the dark force that is growing and threatening the school. I love the imagination of this story and we absolutely loved it. It’s rated PG, but use caution for the younger kids. Some of the creatures, ghosts, and such could be a little scary (you can read the parent guide here).
3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In this one, Harry Potter returns to Hogwarts for his second year. He and his friends (Hermoine and Ron) are improving their wizardry skill and discover that someone has opened a chamber that is allowing dark forces to grow and spread–and specifically attacking “mudbloods” (those whose parents are not both wizards). This includes Hermoine. We really enjoyed this one as well, but I felt like they tried too hard to make us impressed with some of the magical elements. I know these movies are 20 years old and that good CGI was still being developed. I’m guessing that the director focused so much on some of the gimmicks (oooh a floating cup you can drink out of!) because it was a big deal to achieve. It’s also rated PG, but I still caution parents of littles–the dark characters can seem particularly scary (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
