We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Skyscraper. We’ve watched this one before as a family, but the boys and I had an evening to ourselves, and this is the one Morgan chose. It is really good. It has Dwayn Johnson playing a man named Will Sawyer. He is a security expert and is employed to sign off on the world’s tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong. His family is trapped when criminals try to overtake the building and he is determined to save them. There is a lot of high action and drama with great stunts (some downright unbelievable). It’s rated PG-13–there’s some foul language and intense fight scenes (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. This is the 3rd movie in the series. We find out that an escaped prisoner poses a threat to Harry and it’s up to him, Ron and Hermione to figure out why. It’s rated PG (I think all of them are), but this one has a bit darker feel to it–the escaped prisoner seems pretty sinister, the dementors are pretty scary, there is a scene where a beloved creature of Hagrid is to be executed, and several other scenes that might be very scary to littles (you can read the parent guide here). I really do love these stories.
3. Out of Time. I stumbled across this movie while I was surfing channels and it’s really good. It’s from 2003 and has Denzel Washington playing a small-town police chief. His ex-wife is a detective on his staff and things get tricky when a woman he is dating frames him for a double homicide. As his ex-wife finds more and more clues leading to him, he is scrambling to cover any connection to himself while trying to find the real killer. Oh my goodness it is intense–with so many twists and turns. I loved it. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
