We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In this 5th movie of the series, no one believes Harry Potter that Voldemort is back. Dumbledore is challenged by the new Dark Arts teacher, Professor Delores Umbridge–who has numerous rules and cruel punishments. She finds a way to push Dumbledore aside and once again Harry, Ron and Hermoine and several other students, band together to protect their beloved school. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. This is the 6th movie in the series. Harry finds a potions book that belonged to someone only known as the ‘Half-blood Prince”. Malfoy is acting very suspicious and that it is discovered that he is working for Voldemort. Dumbledor has figured out the source of Voldemort’s power–horcrux’s. He risks everything to protect Harry and his beloved school. Now, it’s up to Harry to track down and figure out how to destroy these horcrux’s before it’s too late. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
3. Gone Fishing. We were staying in a cabin this week and rifling through their collection of DVDs, we stumbled across this movie featuring Joe Pesci and Danny Glover that none of us had ever seen it. It’s about two friends who are heading to Florida for a fishing contest and encounter a crook on the run who steals their car. They track him down and discover a map to a treasure of cash and jewels he stole. From the description–it sounded like a good action comedy, but it is probably the dumbest movie I have ever seen. Super Rockstar, Morgan, Grayson and even my parents concur. At one point Super Rockstar asked: “Is there even a script or are they just winging it?” It’s rated PG.
4. What to Expect When You’re Expecting. I, of course, read this handy book when I was pregnant for the first time. The movie is not an adaptation of the book–just a comedy/romance about several couples that are expecting their first babies. There are several big- name actors in it and was a cute, fun chick flick that I enjoyed while Super Rockstar was away one evening. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
5. Murder She Wrote. I am in mourning at the passing of Angela Lansbury, so naturally I watched some episodes of my favorite show of all time–Murder She Wrote. I often watch episodes during my lunch time and have re-watched the entire 12 season series at least 3 times (probably more). I appreciate all of her acting credits–but this show is by far the one I love the most.
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
