We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. As soon as the movie ended, Morgan said: “That may be the best Marvel movie yet.” Interestingly enough–Super Rockstar read that same statement from a movie critic a couple of days after we saw it. It’s good. It’s really really good. It has all of the great action and signature humor of the previous ones and I just love getting to see Rockets backstory. It’s rated PG-13 and there is some foul language and crude humor (you can read the parent guide here).
2.Murder Mystery. Super Rockstar and I had seen this before, but when we saw a second one had come out, we thought the boys might enjoy watching too. They did. It’s Adam Sandler playing Nick Spitz–a police sergeant who wants to be a detective and Jennifer Aniston as his wife, Audrey Spitz–who is a hairdresser with a love of mystery novels. They go on an anniversary trip to Europe and end up on a yacht of a rich billionaire. Multiple guests are murdered, and the Spitz’s fumble and bumble their way to solving the crime. It’s just a very fun, lighthearted movie. It’s rated PG-13–there’s foul language, quite a bit of sexual inuendo, and some bloody scenes with the murders–but there’s some humor along with them (you can read the parent guide here).
3. Mystery 2. The Spitz’s now have their own faltering detective agency. One of the new friends they met in the first movie has invited them to his wedding on a private island. When the groom is kidnapped, it’s up to them to help find him. It’s also rated PG-13 for the same reasons as the first one (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Noah. This was one that just Super Rockstar and I watched. It’s from 2014 with Russel Crowe playing the main character. It was weird. I liked how Super Rockstar explained it to our boys when they asked how it was: “It’s like someone who has never read the Bible, heard about the story and then wrote a movie.” That about sums it up. For those of you looking for an accurate Biblical interpretation, you’ll be disappointed–they took A LOT of liberties with the story. And like I said, it’s just weird. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
