We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. My son, Morgan, has been anticipating this movie for well over a year. The months and weeks leading up to its release have been excruciatingly long and he read every bit and scrap of information he could find. To say he is a fan of Transformers is a huge understatement. He is a fanatic.
Morgan’s first impression was one of extreme disappointment–mostly because a favorite character of his, Wheeljack, was not portrayed accurately. After he got over his initial disappointment, however, he felt the movie was very good and is looking forward to seeing it again. I really enjoyed it and so did Grayson and Super Rockstar. It is a continuation of the Bumblebee movie and we learn that Maximals (animal Transformers) were tasked long ago with protecting the Transwarp key from Unicron–a truly bad guy Transformers god who eats entire planets. His minions, the Terrorcons–led by Scourge have discovered they have hidden it on Earth. Now the Maximals and Autobots must fight together to defend and protect Earth.
It’s rated PG-13. There’s very little foul language and is an overall very “clean” movie with lots of great action and battles (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Tower Heist. Our boys had not seen this before and we decided that it would be a good family flick. It’s about a group of workers at a high rise condo who find out they have been victims of a wealthy financier tenant that stole their company pension fund. They employ the help of a low-level crook to break into his apartment and get into a safe that they believe contains millions of dollars. They discover it’s not quite that simple. It’s a really good, funny action/comedy with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy as well as many other notable actors. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
3.FUBAR. This is a new show to stream on Netflix starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is a CIA operative trying to retire, but finds out his daughter is also an agent. They are forced to work together to capture a terrorist while dealing with the betrayal they both feel toward one another. It’s really good and very funny– with great characters and an intriguing story line. It’s rated TV-MA.
4. Mr. and Mrs. Smith. This is another one the boys had not seen– and it had been a while since Super Rockstar and I had. It’s Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie playing a couple who have been married for a few years and neither one knows that the other is a paid assassin—that is until they are both given the same contract and discover each other’s secrets. It’s really great action, intrigue and we loved it. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
