We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. I loved it. It’s exactly what an Indiana Jones movie should be and is a fitting ‘swan song’ for this movie franchise. Indy is much older in this one, but they do a flashback to his younger days (I am so amazed at what they can do with CGI these days). It’s a great adventure about an object he and his colleague retrieve during WWII. It’s half of–what is thought to be–a time travel dial invented in the 15th century. It resurfaces to importance as his god daughter comes looking for it in the present (along with all sorts of bad guys that are trying to steal it from her). Now he must go along to protect her as they search for the clues as to where the second half of the object is hidden and a race against time to keep the bad guys from using it. I loved the action, the story is great, and Harrison Ford did a fantastic job–along with several other notable actors. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Triple Frontier. This is a movie from 2019 streaming on Netflix. It stars Ben Aflek, Pedro Pascal and several other notable actors who play 5 friends that are former special forces. One of them discovers that a wanted drug lord has a home deep in the jungle where he keeps his entire fortune–millions of dollars. They decide to take him down and steal as much of the cash as they can carry. Not only do they have to outrun the cartel, they also have to get over an enormous mountain range to the ocean. It’s a very intense action movie with a lot of tension. We really liked it. It’s rated R.
3. Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s Summer Movie Club time at Cinemark Theaters. Basically, they show reruns of popular movies for really cheap–so you can re-enjoy the movie theater experience. Sonic is a favorite of ours–such a fun movie spin on the popular video game and has Jim Carrey being his best Jim Carrey self. We loved it. It’s rated PG (you can read the parent guide here).
4. The Black List–season 10. It’s bitter sweet to see this TV series coming to an end. It is by far the best role that James Spader has ever played–he makes the show. I highly recommend this series and this last one has–so far–been one of the best. You can stream it or there are new episodes Sundays on NBC–there are only 2 new ones left. It’s rated TV-14 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
