We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.Outlander. I started watching this series on my own several years ago and then got to THE episode (those that are fans, know which one I’m talking about). It was just too disturbing and so I stopped watching all together. But recently Super Rockstar and I were in “show hole” and I brought it up as a possibility. We are only a few episodes in and I remember all the things I liked about it and Super Rockstar seems to be enjoying it too. We’ll most likely skip past episodes that are too explicit. But that’s the beauty of streaming, isn’t it? You don’t have to watch the parts you don’t want to. It’s rated TV-MA.
2.NFL Season Ticket. We have enjoyed watching the NFL Sunday Ticket for the past few years through DirecTV, but since it was purchased by YouTube TV for this season and to get the Sunday Ticket, you have to subscribe to the YouTube TV app–we had a decision to make. We were in the midst of wanting to drop Direct TV anyway–as their prices had become so outrageous. In fact, the only reason we stuck with them so long was because of the Sunday Ticket.
Watching football and wanting to have access to every game is one of Super Rockstar’s few vices. Plus, our younger son, Grayson is playing tackle football for the first time, and he is a big Dolphins fan (I don’t know why, but heh–they’re having a good season so far). Yes, the Sunday ticket is more expensive with YouTube TV. BUT their monthly fee is much less expensive than what we were paying for DirecTV. We justified that it was time to give something new a try and so here we are.
As far as how we feel about it? The jury is still out.
The pros:
- You can watch live TV any time–local news as well as all the networks we enjoy.
- You can stream movies and shows. Like Prime–some cost, some don’t.
- You can record shows and movies (and sports) to your library. With DirecTV we could add it to our DVR. This is similar and so far, that part is pretty easy to figure out.
The cons:
- There is a learning curve–and it’s a big one for us.
- Rather than channel numbers (as with every TV service I have known since childhood), they go by network name. I still haven’t figured out (or if it’s even possible) how to toggle smoothly back and forth between channels, do a search for upcoming shows, and the basics of regular live TV watching.
- Super Rockstar is not a fan of how they do the Sunday Ticket. You have to wait until the millisecond of the game starting before they switch it on. DirecTV used to have the Fox pregame stuff leading up to each game and some of the pregame stuff before the game started. He was fuming when they stayed on an overtime game for the designated channel of last week’s Cowboys game, and he missed kickoff.
- They seem to have a lot of kinks to work out.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
