We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.The Haunted Mansion. None of us were very interested in this one when we saw the movie trailer, but we decided to rent it recently and I’m so glad we did. The trailer didn’t do it justice. One of the biggest reasons we dismissed it is because it looked too scary and horror movie like. Whereas Super Rockstar and Grayson often like stuff like that, Morgan and I generally don’t. But it’s not like that at all. The so called “scary” parts are done with silliness and humor, the characters are great, and we just truly enjoyed the overall movie. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Five Nights at Freddies Movie. This was one I definitely had no interest in. We started allowing the boys to play the video game a couple years ago and whereas the game itself is mostly just jump scares, the back story of the game is quite disturbing. The boys were ecstatic about going to see it on opening weekend and Super Rockstar took them while I stayed home. They all really enjoyed it and my boys–who consider themselves FNAF experts–thought they did a great job of portraying all they know from the video games and books into a movie story. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
3.Twilight. While the boys were away watching their horror movie flick, I decided to start re-watching the Twilight series. I found the books at a garage sale this summer and just completed the second one. Here’s the thing. I think the story is highly creative and interesting. I think the movie did a great job of following the book as closely as possible. It’s good. I guess, I’m just not as enthused with the overall story as I want to be. I would like to have more action and less teenage angst revolving around young love. That’s just my two cents worth. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Twilight: New Moon. Ditto for the movie and book on this one. I do think there is better action for this one. But Bella just seems so weak and fragile, Edward is obsessive and a little smothery, and Jacob is pouty and angry–just like typical teenagers, I suppose. It’s also rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear our opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
