We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Reacher. Super Rockstar and I really enjoyed watching this Jack Reacher TV series. The actor that plays Jack Reacher is much bigger and “beefier” than Tom Cruise (he pays the character in the movie versions). Apparently, fans of the books were pretty upset about Tom’s puny ness. It’s available to stream on Prime and there are currently 2 seasons (and I’ve heard they’re working on a third). We loved it. It’s rated TV-MA.
2. Wonka. What an absolutely delightful movie that we all loved. It’s an origin story of Willy Wonka and how he came to own his own chocolate factory. The characters are all great and Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa is fantastic. It’s rated PG (you can read the parent guide here) and I highly recommend it for whole family.
3. Damsel. This is an interesting tale of a young girl who is chosen to marry a prince in a far-off land. But there is a twist–it’s not exactly for “happily ever after”. It stars Millie Bobby Brown as Elodie (the princess), Angela Basset as her stepmother and has Robin Wright plays the queen mother. The boys weren’t interested in seeing it (probably because it’s about a princess), but Super Rockstar and I really enjoyed it. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. We got to see this one in the theater and loved it. It has kind of a slow beginning as there is a lot of set up for the story, but once the action kicks in–it’s awesome. The Spengler family is now living in the firehouse in NYC that they inherited from the original Ghostbusters. They are regularly capturing and storing ghosts found around town. An ancient artifact is brought to them that they learn is a prison for an evil entity. When it is breaks loose–so does all “hades”. It’s a really fun adventure with all the favorites from the old movies as well as the new one from a couple years ago. It’s rated PG-13–there’s no sexual content to speak of except a mild flirtation of sorts between Phoebe and a female ghost character and the foul language is pretty minimal. Some of the ghosts might be considered kind of dark and scary (you can read the parent guide here).
5. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. We also got to catch this one in the theater–and it’s very much worth it. Kong is enjoying his new life in Hollow Earth–wishing there were more like him and feeling sad and lonely. Godzilla is keeping the Titans at bay on the Earth’s surface and as long as they are apart–there is peace. When a signal is sent out from Hollow Earth– Ilene Andrews, her Iwi tribe adopted daughter Gia, and some other set off to investigate. Kong does discover that there are more like him–but it isn’t good. Gia also discovers that the signal came from a long-lost tribe of her people that are now being threatened. In the end Godzilla must come to his aid to fight for Hollow Earth and against many more Titans. It’s really good and had great action, some humor (a new character, Trapper, is fantastic) and the CGI is very well done. There’s no sex or nudity and the foul language is pretty mild, but there are some very intense kind of gruesome scenes when the monsters clash against each other. It’s rated PG-13 (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
