Movies:
1. Groundhog Day. This is an oldie but a goodie. The boys had never seen it before. They both seemed to enjoy it while we were watching, but when I asked them what they thought–they both said “It was ok.”
2. The Fugitive. This is one of my favorites, but it’s another one the boys had not seen. They thought it was good, but like most movies that are that old–it seemed slow to them.
3. Invitation to a Murder. I chose this one–since I’m always a sucker for a good murder mystery. But this one fell short of expectations. It was kind of weird and quirky, but not in a good way. I thought it was “Ok”, but everyone else thought it was pretty bad.
4. When Harry Met Sally. I couldn’t believe it when Super Rockstar suggested this for a “just us” movie night. It is in my top 10 of all-time favorite movies and it had been an forever since I’ve seen it.
5. Captain America–A Brave New World. We got to see this in our favorite movie theater (Icon Cinemas) opening weekend. I liked it, Super Rockstar thought it was good. Grayson enjoyed it and Morgan absolutely LOVED it. It’s a nice continuation of the Marvel story.
6. Leo. This was a fun and surprisingly good movie. I was skeptical at first because there is a lot of singing throughout. But as we got into it–the story is fantastic, and the songs are just silly. We all really enjoyed it.
7. Interstellar. So I’ve mentioned before that Super Rockstar LOVES a good space movie. Every single weekend he is on the hunt for something new. We actually had seen this several years ago and neither one of us remembered liking it. But both of us had heard from various acquaintances recently that it was one of their favorite movies. Since the boys had never seen it, we decided to give it another go. I don’t know why we didn’t like it the first time. It gets a little strange at times, but it’s very, very good.
8. Mufasa: The Lion King. I was so disappointed in this movie. None of us cared for it much. Whereas the animated version from years ago was full of so many great things–a great story, great songs, inspirational, and funny. This one fell flat in all of the above.
9. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Oh yes, we are. We are re-watching The Hobbit Series. Again. My boys love it, and I enjoy it too. Super Rockstar said when he agreed to watch it with us that he thought it was the Lord of the Rings series. Not that he doesn’t like the Hobbit. But seriously, we just watched them all about 8 months ago. Oh well. We still loved every minute. Three guesses on what series we’ll watch next….
Shows:
1. The Night Agent–Season 2. Super Rockstar and I really enjoyed the first season. This one was pretty good too, but didn’t have quite the zip and intrigue the first one did. We both enjoyed it though.
2. A Man on the Inside. I love, love, loved this. I don’t remember when I’ve seen Ted Danson (Cheers) in anything new. It was absolutely delightful and Super Rockstar and I both enjoyed it. It has kind of similar in feel to Only Murders in the Building (which I absolutely love)
3. The Recruit–Season 1 and 2. One of the benefits of “show hole” is that it causes us to watch things we’ve seen advertised and thought “we’re going to watch that someday.” I really love CIA/spy shows and this one is well done. Super Rockstar and I both enjoyed it.
4. Watson. If it has anything to do with Sherlock Holmes, I’m in. This is a new twist. It’s a modern-day story of Watson and the story picks up right after Sherlock Holmes has gone over the Reichenbach Falls (that in the books supposedly kills both he and his nemesis Moriarty). Watson has started his own medical practice and takes on only difficult, hard to solve cases–much like solving mysteries as he did with Sherlock. We’ve only seen two episodes so far and really liked it. Since it is new, they make you wait a whole week to see new episodes.
5. Elementary. We decided to wait until all new episodes of Watson are available before continuing that series–so we can binge watch it all together. In the meantime, watching it made us remember how much we loved this show, Elementary, from over a decade ago. It too is a modern day re-telling of the Sherlock Holmes character and Watson is a female in this one. It is so, so, so very good. There are seven seasons total and each (except the last) has 24 episodes.
That’s all for now. I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch. Tune in next time for an updated list from us.
