My boys are not fans of Mexican food (where did I go wrong?)–except when I make these delicious Fried Burrito Bowls. They are so simple and your whole family will love them.
- Fajita Size Flour Tortillas
- 2 Cups Vegetable Oil
- Julio's (or taco) Seasoning to taste
- Your favorite burrito (or taco) fillings. (Meat, beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, hot sauce, etc.)
- Heat oil in a small sauce pan.
- Using a ladle, press the flour tortilla into the oil and hold down until fried.
- Use tongs to remove from the oil and place on paper towels to drain.
- Sprinkle with seasoning.
- Fill with your favorite taco/burrito fillings.
The Ingredients:
Heat oil in small sauce pan. Get it nice and hot.
Using a ladle, press the flour tortilla into oil and hold in place until golden brown. Sometimes, the tortillas puff up and you will need to rotate the ladle around and keep pressing it down and even to the sides to get all the bubbles out and get the bowl shape. Please be careful as the oil sometimes sputters and splashes.
Remove from the oil using tongs and place on paper towels to drain. Please use tongs. If you try to use the ladle–you will dump very hot oil all over your counters (it’s not pretty).
Sprinkle with seasoning. Julio’s Seasoning is my favorite for Mexican food, but any taco seasoning would work too.
Fill with your favorite taco/burrito fillings. I use refried beans, ground beef, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole. Don’t be stingy–fill them all the way to the top.
Enjoy! You can eat them tostada style and get massive amounts of fillings all over your face and dumping out on your plate (to be scooped up and used for another bowl) or be fancy and polite and eat them like a salad using a fork (as if).
These are SO delicious and a great spin on the more traditional Taco (or Tostada) Tuesday.
