If you’re needing a new twist on a home staple, Upside down Pizza is fantastic. A good friend gave this recipe to me twenty something years ago and it has been a family favorite ever since.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small jar pizza sauce (or your favorite marinara)
- Your favorite pizza toppings
- 2 cups shredded cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- Brown ground beef and drain
- Mix pizza sauce into meat
- Spread meat mixture into the bottom of a 9 X 13 pan
- Add pizza toppings of your choice
- Sprinkle 2 cups shredded cheese over the toppings
- Mix milk, flour, eggs, oil, salt all together in a small bowl
- Spread batter over the cheese
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes
- Cut into squares and serve
The Ingredients.
Brown the meat and drain.
Mix the pizza sauce (or your favorite marinara) into the meat.
Spread the meat mixture on the bottom of a greased 9 X 13 pan.
Add pizza toppings of your choice (I added some peperoni and bacon. My family does not enjoy vegetables as pizza toppings–makes it seem too healthy)
Sprinkle shredded cheese over toppings.
Mix milk, flour, eggs, oil, and salt all together in a small bowl.
Spread the batter over the shredded cheese. (I double the recipe for the batter to make a thicker “crust”)
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
Cut into squares (or large rectangles like we do–we’re pigs) and enjoy.

This is such a good, satisfying meal and since it’s a “casserole” version of pizza–that makes it a health food. Serve it with a salad or some cut up veggies and it might as well be part of a diet plan. It’s a fact.
