We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Casino Royale. With the new Bond movie coming out soon, and since this will be the last of the Daniel Craig ones–we decided to re-watch all the ones he has been in. Casino Royale set the tone for his Bond movies and are–by far–my favorite in the entire 007 series. In this one, Bond obtains his 00 status and has to defeat a bad guy that is funding a terrorist group, by winning in a high stakes game of poker. There’s all the impossible stunts and exciting scenes that one expects in a Bond movie, but I like that he also has a human side to him. It’s Rated PG-13, but I don’t recommend it for kids. All Bond movies have a lot of scantily clad women in them and adult situations that I don’t believe are appropriate (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Quantum of Solace. In this one, Bond encounters a mysterious organization that has powers beyond anyone’s imagination and has members everywhere. They are attempting to control water in South America and Bond must stop them. There are so many great scenes in this one, lots of cloak and dagger, action and of course Bond being Bond. This one is also rated PG-13 and I don’t recommend for kids (you can read the parent guide here).
3. Skyfall. MI6 comes under attack and Bond, who has been presumed dead, comes back to help take down the bad guy–who is played brilliantly by Javier Bardem. You learn a lot about Bond’s past and there’s a big scene at the end on his family’s estate. The theme of this revolves a lot around the new verses the old. It’s rated PG-13, but I don’t recommend for kids. (you can read the parent guide here).
4. Spiderman. We decided to re-watch the original Spiderman movies (the ones with Toby Maguire) with our boys. In this first one, Peter Parker is a nerdy high school student who is bitten by a super spider on a school field trip and ends up getting super powers as a result. He is forced to face down and kill the Green Goblin whom he finds out is his best friend, Harry’s, dad. It’s rated PG-13–there’s some mild language and the Green Goblin might be scary to younger kids, but other than that it is just fine for older kids (you can read the parent guide here).
5. Spiderman 2. In this one, Peter Parker wrestles with giving up the chance to be with MJ–his true love–because of his responsibility of being Spiderman and not wanting her to be in danger. At one point, he is ready to give up on being Spiderman, but when a new villain emerges–Doc Oc–he knows it’s his responsibility to be the hero he has become. It’s rated PG-13 and has some mild language and some intense scenes with Doc Oc, but otherwise is just fine for older kids (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
