We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. The Amazing Spider-Man. In our continuation of our Spider-man movie binge, this one was next in line. It’s a start over of the story and has Andrew Garfield playing Spider-man. There’s only two in this series–and that’s a good thing. We call these the “Emo-Spiderman’s”. The movies have a LOT of lag in them and way too much story line. When the big action scenes do come, it always seems cut short. In this first one, the bad guy is a giant lizard. It’s very meh to me. And the boys felt there was WAY too much smooching between Peter Parker and his girlfriend Gwen Stacy. It’s rated PG-13 and I think it’s fine for that age range. Young kids might find the lizard scenes a bit scary (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Ted Lasso. This is a new TV series that you can binge watch on Apple TV. So many people had been telling us how great it was and we 100% agree. The main character is played by Jason Sudeikis. He’s an American football coach hired to coach an English football team. He doesn’t know anything about the sport, but is known for building strong teams. You really have to watch it. His character is absolutely delightful and the whole story line is captivating. There are two seasons to enjoy so far. A +++!
3. The Many Saints of Newark. This is the prequel story to the hit TV Series, The Sopranos. We were SO excited when we saw the previews for this movie. We are HUGE Sopranos fans. A really cool part of the movie is that James Gandolfini’s (Tony Soprano) son, Michael Gandolfini, plays the young Tony Soprano. I’ll be honest. I was kind of disappointed. The previews of the movie did not match the movie at all. The story has a lot to do with racial tensions of the time and young Tony Soprano’s relationship with his uncle Dickie. I suppose that’s the story they were trying to tell–that his uncle influenced his path in life, but it felt very disjointed, jumped around a lot and was unclear. If you have HBO Max, you can watch it for free. I found myself very thankful that we didn’t pay full price movie theater pricing to watch it. It’s Rated R.
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
