We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. No Time to Die. If you love Bond movies as much as I do–you’ve already seen, and loved, this movie. If not–I highly recommend seeing it. This series, with Daniel Craig playing 007, are the best of all the Bonds in my humble opinion. This is the finale for his run as the famous British spy and it was FANTASTIC! Rami Malek plays the villain in this one and does a great job. It’s rated PG-13, but I won’t let my boys watch any of the Bond movies. It’s not the intense action or scary bad guys or even language–it’s the adult situations and sexual scenes. There’s typically quite a bit. But, I have to say, of all the Bond movies–this one was the pretty mild (you can read the parent guide here).
2. The Amazing Spider-man 2. This is the second one in what we call–the “Emo Spiderman’s”. It’s…..ok. But, like the first one in this series–there’s WAY too much dialogue and not enough action. The bad guy is Electro-man (played by Jamie Foxx) and Green Goblin makes an appearance toward the end. I do like Sally Field as Aunt Mae, but otherwise I just didn’t care for it very much. It’s rated PG-13 and other than the bad guys being a little intense–it’s just fine for kids (you can read the parent guide here).
3. The Expendables. Super Rockstar and I were in the mood for some mindless action and remembered The Expendables movies. There are three and star Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lungren, Mickey Rourke and several other action stars of the 80’s. In this one, we find out that they are a group of paid vigilantes–taking out “bad guys” for the right price. There’s a lot of military type action–with explosions, high powered weapons and millions of bullets fired. The acting is about what you’d expect, but like I said–we were looking for mindless action and this fits the bill perfectly. It’s rated R and the violence is quite graphic so I don’t recommend for kids at all.
4. Spider-man Homecoming. Next up in our Spider-Man marathon is the ones with Tom Holland playing the main character. I absolutely LOVE him playing Spider-Man and think he does a great job. I also love that they tie it in with the other Avenger movies and characters. In this one he has just returned from helping Iron Man in the Captain America Civil War movie. He is anxiously awaiting his next assignment as an Avenger, but Tony Stark has him on hold–encouraging him to be a “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”. We loved it. It’s rated PG-13 and other than the villain being a little dark and scary sometimes (The Vulture played by Michael Keaton), it’s just fine for older kids. There are a couple of references here and there that aren’t appropriate for young kids. (you can read the parent guide here).
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
