We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.Sherlock Holmes. I am a HUGE Sherlock Holmes fan and have seen this movie a few times. We watched this as a family movie and now my boys are big fans too. Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes and Jude Law playing Watson–it is AWESOME! It’s rated PG-13 and does have some foul language and one scene where Sherlock is stark naked on a bed (a pillow covers everything up). Also the overall theme of this movie is that the bad guy is practicing black magic. It’s proven in the end to all be illusions and tricks, but young viewers might get scared (you can click here for parent info). I think it’s just fine for tween/teen.
2. Dirty Harry, Magnum Force (Dirty Harry 2) and The Enforcer (Dirty Harry 3). Lets just start with the simple facts–these movies were made in the 1970’s. The reason this is notable is because #1–the quality of movies were FAR below what we have now–cheesy acting and awkward scripts. You can expect slow moving scenes, extra long shots of the landscape and a lot of closeups of Clint Eastwood’s squinty eyes. #2 There are some racist overtones that make you cringe. #3 Political correctness had not been invented yet–there is womanizing, some nudity and a few “I can’t believe they said that” moments. All that aside–I have really enjoyed them. They’re fantastic “good guy catches the bad guy” movies and the famous “Do you feel lucky?” line in the first one is just awesome. They are rated R with a lot of adult scenes and situations–so most definitely not for kids to watch.
3. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. We also watched this one as a family. This has Sherlock Holmes nemesis Moriarty in it as well as Sherlock’s brother Mycroft. This is such a great movie–lots of action and humor. I highly recommend it. This one is also rated PG-13 and is just fine for tween/teenage (you can read the parent info here).
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
