We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.The Dark Knight Rises. Since we let the boys watch The Dark Knight, they were anxious to check this one out to. I really liked Christian Bale as Batman and in this one, Anne Hathaway plays Cat Woman. Together they battle a brutal bad guy named Bane. There’s still a lot of intensity, darkness and violence that wouldn’t be good for younger kids, but is just fine for older kids (you can read the parent guide here).
2. Finch. Just Super Rockstar and I watched this new film that you can stream on Apple TV +. It features Tom Hanks as the main character (Finch). He builds a robot in post-apocalyptical earth whose sole purpose will be to care for his beloved dog after he dies. It’s a very cute story about how this robot learns the human ways to care for, love and be a friend. It’s rated PG-13 and it would be just fine for kids –although there are a few intense moments and sad parts. (you can read the parent review here). It’s a drama, so there’s no action scenes with guns blazing and bombs going off–therefore my boys weren’t interested at all. I liked it. My only criticism is that it felt incomplete. It seemed like they took a long time telling the story, but didn’t finish it.
3. The Hardy Boys. I found a TV series on Hulu that I’m enjoying. It’s a new version of The Hardy Boys and so far, I really like it. It begins with an introduction to all the characters, a tragedy occurs, and the mystery begins. I’m about half-way through season 1 and each episode reveals more of the mystery. It’s rated PG and would be fine for older kids. There’s some sinister characters and a few intense scenes with two seasons to watch so far.
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
