We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1.The Bourne Legacy. We continued our family movie binge on the Bourne movie series. This one has Jeremy Renner playing the lead roll of Aaron Cross. He is part of the newest line of super trained soldiers and finds out the government is eliminating all of them because the program is considered compromised. The story runs parallel to last movie–The Bourne Ultimatum. The boys didn’t care for this one as much because there isn’t as much high energy action. I think they were doing a lot of set up and back story–probably anticipating a sequel that never happened. It’s rated PG-13 and has some mild foul language and of course a lot of fight scenes and taking out bad guys (you can read the parent info here).
2. Reign of Fire. This is a movie from 2002 and it has Mathew McConaughey and Christian Bale playing the lead characters. It’s about dragons who have been lying dormant for millennia–they awaken and destroy everything. They breed rapidly and before long the whole earth is overtaken and mankind is nearly wiped out. Whereas one hero is trying to lay low and protect his group of survivors—hoping to outlast the dragons, the other hero is fighting and killing them–he wants to take on the alpha male dragon. It’s really good and we enjoyed it a lot. You can expect the typical from McConaughey–shirtless as often as he can get by with it. And Christian Bale uses his “Batman” voice a couple of times. Just Super Rockstar and I watched this one, but it’s rated PG-13. The dragons are kind of scary and there is some intense and even bloody scenes–so I wouldn’t recommend for younger kids, but I think my boys would love it (you can read the parent info here).
3. The Seeker: The Dark is Rising. Super Rockstar had a gig–so just the boys and I checked this one out. It’s about a kid who discovers he is a chosen one for a secret group of warriors who are responsible for fighting the darkness. There some time travel, some battling of bad guys, and he has a crush on a girl–it has all the feel of a typical teeny bopper movie. The boys thought it was good and enjoyed it. I thought it was ok. It’s rated PG, but my 12 year old got a little scared from some of the scenes. There was one with some ravens attacking that was kind of creepy and a scene with a ton of slithering snakes. I think littles might be too scared with this one (you can read the parent info here).
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
