We are a family that loves movies and TV shows. Each week I’ll share what we watched and what we thought about them. I hope it will give you good insight and even some ideas if you’re stuck finding something new.
1. Chaos Walking. This movie looked very promising from the trailer–it has Tom Holland (Spiderman) and Daisy Ridley (Star Wars) as the main characters. It’s about a planet that has all men (the women have all died) and they can see and hear each other’s thoughts (called “the noise”). A woman lands on the planet and her life is now in danger. We watched it with the boys and I thought it was…ok. There was quite a bit more foul language than we were led to believe in reading the parent info (you can read that here). “The noise” is kind of distracting at times and a little over done in my opinion. I had a hard time really getting into the story overall.
2. Grantchester. Super Rockstar and I found a new to us show to binge watch and are loving it. It’s about a small town priest who finds himself helping a local cop with crimes that occur in the early 1950’s. It is another PBS Masterpiece series that is now available to stream on Amazon Prime–there are 5 seasons to enjoy. The characters and story lines are just great so far. We’ve only watched season 1 so far. Just FYI, they do include some social issues in a few episodes.
3. The Da Vinci Code. Super Rockstar and I were scrolling through Amazon Prime trying to find a movie to watch and stumbled across one I was certain we hadn’t seen. I found out it’s part of The Da Vinci Code series, so we decided to start with the first one–even though we saw it years ago. Here’s the thing–I think it’s a really compelling story and a good movie, but as a Christian I found myself cringing at the premise of the story–it seemed heretical to me. I don’t mind fictional stories that “suppose” things, but I found the whole notion of it hurting my spirit. It is an intriguing story with lots chasing clues, danger and good action.
4. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. As a family we revived a Pirates of the Caribbean binge watch–starting with the first one. I absolutely LOVE these movies. They are all rated PG-13, but mostly because of the behavior of Jack Sparrow–drinking, being drunk, a little womanizing, etc…Also, in this first one there are some skeleton characters that could be scary to littles, but our boys love them and I’m so excited to watch them all again. (you can read the parent guide here)
I would love to hear your opinions and any suggestions you may have of what to watch.
